Later date sought in NJ gov's race debate

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - August 31, 2009 The televised debate is set for Oct. 1 on New Jersey Network.

NJN News Director Michael Aron says he asked for the switch to Oct. 22 to help ensure Corzine's participation.

Corzine's campaign says the governor won't participate on Oct. 1, but would give serious consideration to attending a late-month debate when they say more people will be tuning in.

Republican Chris Christie and independent Chris Daggett are required to participate in two Election Law Enforcement Commission-sanctioned debates because they are accepting public financing for their campaigns. The wealthy Corzine is not.

Christie and Daggett oppose the move.
