Gunmen rob Rita's Water Ice in West Oak Lane

WEST OAK LANE - September 1, 2009 Rita's is usually a place for family fun but Monday night around closing time it was anything but as 3 masked men stormed this store and held it up.

The 3 masked men entered the Rita's through a back door. As one employee took out the trash for the night they pounced.

"One of the individuals displayed a firearm, placed it to the man's head and escorted him back into the business. The males took him right to the area where the proceeds were kept, that's my understanding that they took about $2,000 out of the business," said Lt. Frank Vanore.

Once inside the employee with a gun to his back was forced to open a cash register. The employee and another female co-worker were then pushed under a desk in the back office.

Two suspects clean out another register from a safe while a 3rd criminal keeps lookout through a front window.

The bandits flee and an employee immediately calls 911.

"No one was injured, we're very lucky, but they seemed to be well organized, well knowledged about that business and they planned this robbery obviously for some time."

Police have no suspects and hope someone knows who these men are or hears about this robbery and will contact police.
