Del. challenges sports betting order

DOVER, Del. (AP) - September 9, 2009 A federal appeals court says Delaware can offer only parlay, or multiple, bets on at least three NFL games, as it did in a 1976 lottery that exempted the state from a later federal ban on sports betting.

But in a letter sent to a federal judge Tuesday, attorneys say the state is considering offering two-game parlays.

The letter asks the judge to vacate his order permanently barring the state from offering any sports lottery that differs from what was offered in 1976. Attorneys argue that the order is inconsistent with the appeals court ruling, which they suggest leaves open the possibility of a two-game parlay.
