Planes collide near Phoenix, 1 dead

COOLIDGE, Ariz. - September 9, 2009 FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says one person on board the single-engine Cessna 150 was killed when it crashed Wednesday morning in the town of Coolidge. A second person has been airlifted to a hospital.

The pilot of a single-engine Piper Cherokee handed safely in a field about two miles from where the Cessna crashed. Neither the pilot nor a passenger were hurt.

Gregor says no one on the ground was hurt. Inspectors with the FAA and National Transportation Safety board are on the way to the crash sites.
