Police chase crosses townships

BRISTOL, Pa. - September 19, 2009 The incident started shortly after 1:00 a.m. in Port Richmond when a 24th District officer noticed the green Honda drag racing with another car and pulled the vehicle over at Castor Avenue and Richmond Street.

When the officer got out of his car to approach the vehicle the driver of the Honda put his car into reverse and tried to strike the officer forcing him to jump onto the hood of his vehicle before fleeing.

The officer then attempted to catch up to the vehicle which also tried to run another police vehicle off the road near Grant Avenue and Academy Road before getting onto Interstate 95 northbound.

Philadelphia Police's helicopter was summoned and followed the vehicle as it got off onto State Road traveling at a high rate of speed and sped into Bensalem where it tried to run a Bensalem police vehicle off the road.

The vehicle then got back onto 95 and headed south but ran into heavy traffic in a construction zone. The driver got off onto Academy Road traveling the wrong way and drove north on Frankford Road into Bensalem Township where Bensalem Police threw down spike strips on Route 13 near Poquessing Road causing the vehicles tires to go flat.

Police arrested the driver, another male and two females inside. The driver believed to be in his early 20s was from Pensport and was driving with a suspended license and an unregistered vehicle. He faces numerous other driving related charges as well as assault on police.
