Bicyclist critical after hit by car

CENTER CITY - October 3, 2009 This happened at 22nd and Market Streets around 7:30 p.m. Friday

Officials say a 40-year old woman was struck by a car and thrown several feet from the bike she was riding.

Medics responded and rushed the unidentified woman to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania for treatment.

Police later located the vehicle they believe was the striking vehicle and the driver a short time later at 22nd Street and Ben Franklin Parkway.

The driver is being charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, leaving the scene and DUI.

Neither the name of the bicyclist or the driver has been released.
