Police shoot 16-year-old suspect

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - October 4, 2009 It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Bancroft Street.

Two officers approached a group of males at the intersection of Chadwick and Cumberland Streets trying to get them to clear the area. Officers than noticed a 16-year-old male with an unknown item. When they went to investigate, the teen took off and a police foot pursuit started.

The suspect pulled out a handgun and pointed the 9mm towards the officers. One officer then discharged their weapon, striking the teen once in the shoulder.

The gun was recovered at the scene and police were able to apprehend the suspect.

The teen was treated and released from Temple University Hospital and is now in police custody. His records came up as a missing juvenile. It has not been determined if he will be charged as an adult or juvenile.
