And it is now taking steps to make sure the you get a clearer picture about
who says what about products that are reviewed in cyberspace. The FTC will require that
writers on the Web clearly state whether they are getting freebies
or payments from companies for reviewing their products.
The panel also says advertisers that feature testimonials that claim dramatic
results have to back up those statements - and can't just hide
behind disclaimers that the results aren't typical. The rules take
effect December 1 - and violators could get sanctions, including a
lawsuit.
