Taliban: No threat to other countries

KABUL - October 7, 2009 In an Internet statement obtained by the SITE Institute, which monitors terror messages, the militant group says its aim is "independence and establishment of an Islamic system."

It says it does not have any agenda to harm other countries, but is determined and ready for a prolonged war if other nations want to turn Afghanistan into a colony.

The statement comes on the anniversary of the U.S. invasion that ousted the Taliban for harboring Osama bin Laden. U.S. forces launched airstrikes into Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2001, less than a month after the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S.
