Lawmakers pledge to rescue Halloween parade

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (AP) - October 14, 2009

Assemblymen Herb Conaway Jr. and Jack Conners, who represent the district, say they'll pay the $1,000 to keep the Maple Shade parade going.

Officials had said there might not be enough money in the weak economy to keep the tradition alive. It costs about $4,000 to hold the parade in the Philadelphia suburb.

The lawmakers, both Democrats who are up for re-election, came up with the cash after reading that the parade was in danger.
