Del. sees slight bump in transit ridership

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - October 18, 2009

The U.S. Census Bureau says 3.8 percent of Delaware commuters used public transportation last year - up from 2.7 percent in 2007.

Nationwide, 5 percent of commuters took public transportation to work last year.

Some riders say their trips on transit are much longer than they would be by car - but the money they save makes it worthwhile.

Stephen Kingsberry, executive director of Delaware Transit Corp., says transit service is available around the state, not just in metropolitan areas with more DART bus riders.

DART has added buses to its routes and expanded its service on Sundays.
