Man shot during arrest in N. Philly

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - October 25, 2009

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of North 22nd Street.

Police tell Action News that there was a minor accident involving 2-vehicles at the intersection of 22nd and Indiana Avenue. After the accident a front seat male passenger of the vehicle that was struck got out of the car and began to fire shots at the driver of the striking vehicle.

A police officer from the 39th District came upon the male and ordered him to stop, the suspect stopped firing and the officer called for an assist and went to place the man into custody. While the officer was trying to take the man into custody the officer's gun discharged and struck the ground and then bounced up striking the male.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tayron Davis suffered from a graze wound. He was taken by police to Temple University Hospital to get checked out.

Davis faces numerous charges from police.

The officer was not injured and will be placed on leave while Internal Affairs does a customary investigation.
