TRENTON, N.J. - October 26, 2009 Corzine said Monday that he has directed Attorney General Anne
Milgram to prepare legal action to stop the work unless the Army
Corps allows the environmental review process to be completed.
The Army Corps wants to deepen the river channel from
Philadelphia to the mouth of the Delaware Bay so the ports can
accommodate larger ships.
Opponents fear the dredging will stir up toxic sediment and harm
water quality.
Last week, the Army Corps notified state officials that it
intends to start work by December or January, citing federal
authority to maintain navigation.
