Police: Del. woman assaults officer during stop

MILFORD, Del. (AP) - October 28, 2009

Spokesman Detective Dwight Young says an officer stopped Mikahela Ray for speeding on North Rehoboth Boulevard on Monday morning and she would not hand over her license and registration and locked herself in the car.

Ray finally got out and Young says she cursed and screamed at officers and when they tried to arrest her, she grabbed and kicked them. Once she was handcuffed, Young says Ray tried to slide underneath her car to keep officers from reaching her. He says she was placed in a patrol car and began kicking the door and trying to spit on the officer.

Ray is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force or violence, speeding and other offenses.
