Police say a hospice nurse who had gone to care for Bruce Donophan at his Lincoln home, saw Donophan assaulting his 51-year-old girlfriend on Friday. The nurse called troopers and pulled Donophan off of the woman.
The victim was in critical condition at a hospital with severe injuries.
Donophan has been charged with first-degree assault.
