Deadly shooting initiates police chain reaction

NICETOWN-TIOGA - December 5, 2009

Philadelphia police officers on patrol say they heard gunshots around 1:15 a.m. Saturday outside Buffy's Talk of the Town Bar on the 2000 block of Dennie Street in the city's Nicetown-Tioga section.

After the crowd cleared, a man in his 20's was found shot several times. He was rushed to Temple Hospital where he died from his wounds a short time later.

Several witnesses and security from the bar are being questioned.

Responding officer injured Meanwhile, a Philadelphia police officer's car was struck while responding to that shooting.

It happened along the 2200 block of Allegheny Avenue. Reports say another car broadsided the patrol car.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Temple Hospital for treatment.

The elderly driver of the other car suffered minor injuries.

Investigators stop robbery While all that was happening, a crime scene investigator who was also headed to the murder at the bar in Nicetown-Tioga was hurt while trying to stop a robbery.

Three investigators were in a CSI van on the 4600 block of Wayne Avenue when they saw a man robbing a woman outside of Wayne Junction.

When they tried to stop it, the alleged robber got into a scuffle with the investigators.

One of the officer's suffered a broken arm.

The man was arrested and now faces numerous charges.
