Kettle man stole from Salvation Army

HERMITAGE, Pa. (AP) - December 9, 2009

The Salvation Army in Sharon hasn't answered phone calls on Wednesday. Police in Hermitage have charged 62-year-old Arnold Johnson, of Sharon, with theft. He's to receive a court summons in the mail.

Johnson tells The AP that his pension was recently cut and he needed to pay for his prescription medicines. He says he was supposed to be paid as a kettle attendant, and stole the money only after the Salvation Army didn't pay him for three weeks.

Johnson says he "never did nothing like this in my whole life."
