2 elderly women rescued from Northeast Philly fire

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - July 25, 2010

Flames broke out at a home in the 1200 block of Stirling Street in the Northeast. Firefighters were called to the scene just before midnight.

When they arrived, crews found the two women inside suffering from smoke inhalation. The women were rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where they are listed in critical condition.

A fire official said the late night heat and humidity made it a particularly tough fire to extinguish.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
