Charges filed in Phila. chihuahua hoarding case

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - July 29, 2010

The SPCA raided the home on July 14th in the 700 block of Earp Street.

Investigators say 85 chihuahuas and chihuahua mixes, along with two cats, were recovered from the home. Another two cats were found hiding days later.

The remains of two dead dogs were also found in the home, the SPCA said.

A total of 134 summary citations were filed: 43 for lack of veterinary care and 91 for housing animals in unsanitary conditions.

Each citation carries the penalty of up to $750 in fines, no more than 90 days in jail, or both.

The SPCA said the female homeowner, who is in her 50's, lives alone at the address. She has not yet been identified.
