It happened around 5:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Girard Avenue exit.
Police say traffic had slowed because of a disabled vehicle in the left-hand lane.
Police say Jose Alamo Torres came upon the scene and slammed into the back of a Toyota Corolla that had slowed down.
Torres was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No other serious injuries were reported.
