Charity needs help getting kids ready for school

HATFIELD, Pa. - August 6, 2010

The North Penn United Way's "Stuff the Bus" campaign is trying to collect more than 1,300 backpacks filled with school supplies to help local children.

The donated items will help kids in the North Penn and Souderton Area school districts for the coming school year.

Last year, the campaign collected 1,080 backpacks.

Backpacks can be dropped off at 35 locations in the North Penn and Indian Valley communities.

The organization will also be collecting backpacks tonight at Lansdale's First Friday event.

Other locations where you can drop off backpacks are:

-any Univest branch in Montgomery County
-the National Penn Bank branches in Lansdale and Souderton
-the Harleysville Savings Bank locations in Harleysville, Hilltown, or Hatfield
-Beneficial Bank branches in Kulpsville, Montgomery Township and Spring House
-the Indian Valley Family YMCA
-the Indian Valley and North Penn Boys and Girls Clubs
-the Lansdale Public Library
-the Indian Valley Public Library
-Harleysville Books
-Generations of Indian Valley
-Encore Experiences at Harleysville
-the PEAK Center in Lansdale.

Suggested items to include in the backpacks include:

-glue stick
-a box of tissues
-a small pencil or supply box
-colored pencils or crayons
-a three-ring binder
-folders
-pencils
-erasers
-assignment or agenda book.

Donations will be accepted until Aug. 13.
