The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is putting nearly 180 low-number plates up for grabs.
More 6,000 people applied last year, and more are expected to enter this time.
The coveted plates used to be handed out by politicians to the well-connected.
But in 1997, the process was opened to all in the form of a lottery.
