The fire began around 7:05 a.m. at 101 Front Street. Fire officials say the home is a total loss.
Investigators believe the fire began on the second floor in the back bedroom.
A resident, a 27-year-old man, tried to put out the fire with a garden hose.
When rescuers arrived, they found the man suffered from burns and smoke inhalation.
He was taken to the hospital where he's expected to recover.
A vacant home next door, 103 Front Street, was also destroyed by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The SPCA was called to the scene because a cat was found dead inside.
