Child among injured in car, dump truck crash

BEAR, Del. - August 12, 2010

It happened around 11:20 a.m.

Police say a 2006 Mazda 6, driven by Colby M. Schepers, 26, of Bel Air, MD, was travelling southbound on Route 72 through the intersection of Porter Road.

The Mazda hit the front of a Mack dump truck driven by Edward Thompson, 55, of Middletown, Delaware. Police say the driver of the dump truck was trying to make a left-hand turn.

Schepers suffered two broken femurs, a broken clavicle, and a broken wrist. A five-year-old girl, Layla Britton of Bel Air, MD, suffered cuts to her stomach and legs. Front-seat passenger Laura Weichseldorfer, 27, Bel Air, MD suffered a broken clavicle and lacerations to her knees.

Porter Road was closed for three hours after the crash.

Police say how this crash happened remains under investigation.
