John Schmidt, of the 200 block of Ridge Road in Claymont, has been charged with first degree rape.
Police say the investigation began back on May 5th when detectives received a report of a girl that was sexually abused in April.
Schmidt was interviewed and arrested on Thursday.
Authorities say additional information regarding this investigation is being withheld in an effort to protect the identity of the victim.
Schmidt has been arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post $25,000 secured bail.
