Man admits role in $1.3M advertising scam

PHILADELPHIA - August 17, 2010

Forty-six-year-old David Lazar, of Churchville, pleaded guilty Monday in Philadelphia federal court to charges of conspiracy and mail fraud. Lazar admitted he hit up 982 businesses in all 50 states for advertisements that were never published.

Prosecutors say Lazar and a co-defendant priced the ads between $350 and $500 each. According to court documents, the men would persuade victims to pay by claiming the businesses had committed and the ads had already been printed.

Lazar could face up to 78 months in prison when he's sentenced November 18.
