Police union warns visitors Atlantic City unsafe

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - August 19, 2010

The billboard is the work of the Policeman's Benevolent Association, whose members are facing layoffs as the city tightens its budget.

The billboard on Route 30 west reads: "In AC, everyone wants to get lucky. With 73 less police officers, even the bad guys feel lucky. Save Atlantic City, save Atlantic City police officers."

State PBA president Anthony Wieners says the ad is a last resort.

Mayor Lorenzo Langford's administration in June laid off 20 police officers and plans to cut an additional 40 officers in September. Thirteen retiring officers won't be replaced.

The PBA says it will expand the billboard campaign throughout the state in the coming weeks.
