Italy's specially trained lifeguards leap from helicopters or speeding boats.

But they don't get paid.

A pat on the head or a dog biscuit is all the reward they need.

The "lifedogs" wear a harness or tow a float that victims can grab.

Officials with Italy's Coast Guard say 300 dogs are fully trained for beach duty.

Lifeguard Monia Luciani says the rescue dogs will bring anything back to shore, from a fish to a swimmer in trouble.

She says to the dogs, it's all a game, not work.
