The 8-inch main ruptured at about 5:00 a.m., along the 6300 block of Revere Street, between Levick and Robbins streets.
Police moved in quickly to re-route traffic in the area, while Philadelphia Water Department workers cut off the water.
Traffic has been able to resume in the area.
The Philadelphia Water Department says once the water was shut off it meant that an estimated 60 customers will be without service for 6 to 8 hours while repairs are made.
The water department expects to resume service by the end of the day.
