Not a nice welcome to the "Big Apple"

NEW YORK (AP) - September 6, 2010

Some foreigner visitors to the Big Apple are getting a rude welcoming -- they're victims of an Internet scam.

Police say the tourists have paid for what they think are luxury accommodations in the Times Square area.

But when they get to the Camelot, they learn they've been conned.

The doorman has turned away about 50 people who've paid upfront for an apartment rental.

New York police say they don't have jurisdiction, because the money transfers originate outside the city.
