Cops hit woman with Taser after Target theft

WILMINGTON, Del. - September 8, 2010

The incident happened around 7:25 p.m. Tuesday night at the store at 1050 Brandywine Parkway.

According to the Delaware State Police, Haydee Martinez, 29, of Wilmington and Kenyatta Brooks, 40, of New Castle, put razor blades and baby formula into bags.

Police say the pair then tried to leave the store without paying for the items, but were stopped by a store employee.

That worker even physically restrained Martinez, police said, until a state trooper arrived.

Martinez was struggling with the worker in an attempt to break free, according to police, and the responding trooper had to use his Taser to get her to stop.

Martinez was arrested and sent to prison for lack of $6,000 secured bond on charges of resisting arrest, shoplifting, criminal mischief and 3rd degree conspiracy.

Brooks, who police say remained at the scene during the entire incident, was issued a summons for shoplifting and released pending a court appearance.

No one was hurt during this incident, police said.
