Police say it happened around 10:30 on Wednesday night along the 6000 block of Chester Avenue.
The victim, in his 20s, was shot in the head.
Witnesses told police they saw two men run down the street right after the gunshots were fired.
When paramedics rushed the wounded man to Hahnemann University Hospital he had unstable vital signs.
Investigators have not indicated if they have found a motive for the shooting, or if they think they know who fired the shots.
