Delaware Office of Highway Safety spokeswoman Alison Kirk says more than 30 agencies conducted checkpoints and patrols from Friday to Monday. Fifty-one people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to the Office of Highway Safety's website, 5,755 people were arrested for DUI in Delaware in 2009, 64 percent of which were first-time offenders. The website says 56 percent of alcohol-related deaths in 2009 occurred in New Castle County, 19 percent were in Kent County and 25 percent were in Sussex County.
