I-76 closed twice Sunday due to jackknifed rig

UNIVERSITY CITY - September 12, 2010

A jackknifed tractor-trailer closed part of the Schuylkill Expressway for several hours Sunday morning.

It happened around 10:00 a.m. near the University Avenue Exit in Philadelphia's University City section.

Both westbound lanes of I-76 were closed at the scene for some time while crews worked to clear the rig.

Crews reopened the lanes shortly after 12:30 p.m. after clearing the scene. However, both westbound lanes then shutdown again around 2:30 p.m. - this time so crews can put down sand at the scene to soak up any spilled fluids from the crash.

Crews have since left the scene and traffic is now open.

No word at this time on what caused the accident.
