Suspect shot during Happy Harry's robbery charged

BEAR, Del. - September 16, 2010

Thomas Maney, 31, of New Castle, face a number of charges including attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The most recent incident happened around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday at the store in the Glendale Plaza in Bear, Delaware.

According to police, Maney entered the store and confronted two employees with a handgun, ordering them to the rear of the store.

As this was going on, police say an armed security guard confronted Maney, demanding he drop his weapon.

Police say Maney refused, and started to approach the security guard with his gun raised.

That's when the guard, a 23-year-old Dover man, shot at Maney but missed. He backed off, but Maney allegedly followed him.

That's when the guard fired again, striking Maney in the chest.

State troopers then arrived and took Maney to the hospital.

Police say Maney has also been charged for robbing the same store back on August 5th. Police say, during that robbery, Maney was armed with a shotgun and ordered another security guard to drop his weapon.

He then allegedly made off with narcotics from the pharmacy area and that security guard's handgun.

Police say Maney used that same handgun during Wednesday's robbery.
