Brokers of Ally Financial Inc's GMAC Mortgage unit have been told to stop evictions, cash-for-key transactions, and lockouts immediately.
The company will also suspend sales of properties on which it has already foreclosed.
GMAC says the moratorium is due to a need to correct a "potential issue" in its foreclosure process but it is not identifying the specific internal issue.
