Google tightens security due to hackers

September 21, 2010 Now at least when you log into certain accounts for the first time, you'll have to go through a two-step process typing in a six-digit code after your regular Google password.

The codes are being sent to people's mobile phones or you can download a free security app.

Folks using Google's free Gmail service will have the option of using the security codes within the next few months.

The measure is in response to a growing concern of phishing scams and stolen passwords that are then re-used.
