The incident happened along the 5100 block of Charles Street shortly after 10:15 p.m.
Officers called for an assist.
Reports then say at least one officer discharged his weapon.
The male suspect was shot and knocked down by the gunfire.
He was rushed by police to Aria Hospital Torresdale Division where he was pronounced dead.
There is no word if the man was armed.
A gun has been recovered along the 5100 block of Charles Street.
It is not known what led up to the confrontation.
