Officers say the shooting happened at about 2:30 on Friday morning, at the corner of 39th and Parrish streets.
At this point, investigators are not sure if the crime happened inside or outside a house at that location.
Witnesses told officers that they saw four masked men running from the area after the shooting.
Police were looking for clues inside the house and on the porch.
Officers say the shooting appears to be part of a robbery. The victim is a man in his 40s.
