20 frozen cats recovered from Delco home

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - September 24, 2010

Health Department Code Enforcement Officer Matt Verdi says authorities removed the frozen animals from the vacant home of Denise Merget's mother on Wednesday. Merget had been arrested two weeks ago after she allegedly pulled a gun on an animal welfare worker seizing 59 cats from her own home.

Verdi told the Delaware County Daily Times it's unclear how long the cats had been in the freezer. He says the house was otherwise empty and Merget's mother is in a nursing home.

Merget is being held on $50,000 bail on charges including aggravated assault and terroristic threats. It was not clear if she had a lawyer.
