FYI: Sample great food from trucks in Philly

PHILADELPHIA - September 29, 2010

It's fast food on four wheels elevating street food to fine dining fare and serving it to you curbside. If you like to sample, here's your FYI on a truck grub and ethnic food bazaar that's the first of its kind in Philadelphia.

All is normal today at Passyunk Square. But next week, this place will be transformed into a food-lover's paradise. It's called Night Market and it's the brain child of the Food Trust.

April White told Action News, "It will be right down here in East Passyunk and it will be the first. We'll do five more over the next 18 months or so. "

From 6-10 p.m., streets around Tasker and Passyunk will be closed off and food trucks parked bumper to bumper.

Come hungry and ready to sample a wide variety of foods, from Honest Tom's chicken and sweet potato tacos, to Maru Global's Takoyaki. Literally, Takoyaki is grilled octopus, but Maru Global stuffs the fish flavored pancakes with everything from fresh buffalo mozzarella to shrimp to -- you guessed it -- grilled octopus.

"They're creamy in the middle, a little crunchy on the outside," said Nicole Igarashi, the owner of Maru Global

Leave room for dessert. Sugar Philly will be among the vendors serving up something for your sweet tooth.

"We try to go on the higher end of the dessert spectrum especially for trucks," said John Suh of Sugar Philly Truck.

Think crème brulee, macaroons, and spicy Mexican chocolate cake.

You'll find that most dishes are under $5 and they're a little bit on the snacking side so you have a chance to try lots of things.
