Feds charge 17 in violent SW Philly drug case

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - October 6, 2010

U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger hopes the arrests Wednesday will quell the violence at the Bartram Village Housing Development.

The 17 defendants include alleged ringleader Terrance Hamm and murder suspect Omar Roane. Roane was on the lam for six days this summer after fleeing a prison van.

The indictment Wednesday charges that gang members manufactured crack-cocaine, shot and threatened people and sold drugs near a school over the past nine years.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case with city police. It was not immediately clear if the suspects had lawyers.
