Police: Dropped gun fatally shot central Pa. man

HARRISBURG, Pa. - October 11, 2010

Authorities says 41-year-old James Snipes died Saturday after 32-year-old Kenneth Randolph apparently dropped a handgun, which then shot Snipes in the chest.

Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico Jr. says Randolph was carrying the gun illegally. Police plan to charge Randolph with homicide, reckless endangerment and weapons charges.

Police say witnesses told them Snipes, Randolph and another man were having a conversation when Randolph dropped the gun and it discharged, fatally wounding Snipes as he sat on the steps outside his home.

Police are encouraging Randolph and the other man to turn themselves in.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
