The company sent a letter dated Tuesday to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Service notifying the agency of the cuts at its plant in Springdale.
New York-based Avon says work will be moved to Avon plants in Illinois, Mexico and China and to a contract manufacturer in New Jersey.
The company says the Ohio cuts are expected to begin in December should be completed by mid-2012.
Avon spokeswoman Jennifer Vargas says the shutdown is part of a restructuring of its U.S. manufacturing operations announced last year.
