NJ man sentenced in deadly gas station robbery

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - October 16, 2010

State prosecutors say 20-year-old Nasir Salaam must serve 30 years of the sentence imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole. He had pleaded guilty in August to a felony murder charge stemming from the March 2007 robbery in Atlantic City.

The Galloway Township resident was 17 when he and two other teens committed the robbery in which the station owner was fatally shot and an attendant wounded. The three were assisted by two other teens who drove them to the station.

A jury convicted Salaam of armed robbery and weapons charges, but couldn't agree on the felony murder charge. Prosecutors planned to retry him on that charge, but reached a plea deal as that trial was to start.
