SEPTA police officer shoots armed suspect

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - October 16, 2010

At around 7:30 p.m., SEPTA police were called out to the subway station at Broad Street and Erie Avenue for the report of a man on the southbound train with a gun.

The police met the train at the Erie station.

When the train stopped, the man with the gun left the train and ran toward the stairwell.

SEPTA police caught up with the man and he allegedly pointed the gun at them.

A SEPTA police officer then shot the man in the chest.

The suspect was transported to Temple University Hospital in an unknown condition.

SEPTA police are investigating.
