Friends and family held a vigil Sunday evening to remember the victim, 29-year-old Deanna Downs, whose body was found behind a building at the apartment complex where she lived.
Police responded to the Harbor City Apartments located on Atlantic Avenue in Egg Harbor City at 12:14 a.m. Sunday, for a report that a resident walking to his mailbox discovered a body behind the apartment building.
Upon arrival, detectives located the victim, who was later identified as Downs.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. She died of a gunshot wound, investigators said Monday evening.
