Dad of missing NC girl arrested for bad checks

HICKORY, N.C. - October 25, 2010

Hickory police spokeswoman Libby Grigg says Adam Baker was being held Monday in a western North Carolina jail on $7,000 bond. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Grigg says the charges not related to the disappearance of his daughter, Zahra Baker. She was reported missing about two weeks ago.

The girl's stepmother, Elisa Baker, has been charged with obstruction of justice and is still in jail. Police say she admitted writing a bogus ransom note found on the day Zahra was reported missing.

Authorities think the girl, who uses hearing aides and a prosthetic leg, is dead.
