A ballot measure that would have made the illegal weed legal has been rejected.
Proposition 19 called for legalization of up to an ounce of marijuana for adults.
Smoking pot in private would have been OK, as would growing it on private property.
Advocates pitched the pot prop as a way of generating tax revenue with legal sales.
But it apparently got voters in the Golden State a little out of joint.
