NJ to reduce state workforce by 1,200 jobs

TRENTON, N.J. - November 4, 2010

Gov. Chris Christie announced during a news conference Wednesday that the state's Civil Service Commission has been notified.

Christie said the layoffs are needed to balance the state's $29.4 billion budget.

Christie said officials would continue to monitor tax revenues and make adjustments if warranted.

Public employee unions had reached an agreement with former Gov. Jon Corzine to prevent layoffs until 2011.
